My Nail Polish Storage

One thing that you may have already noticed about me by now is that I'm quite a nail polish enthusiast. What follows is that my collection doesn't really seem to stop growing anytime soon.
It has taken me quite a long time and lots of failed attempts to figure out a way to properly store all of my polishes.

There were certain requirements that the final storage solution had to fit:

  1. The polishes should be easily accessible!
  2. The different colours should be displayed (or at least visible without having to take them out of a box or something)!
  3. It should store over 100 polishes!
  4. At best, there should be an option to enlarge the storage capacity!
  5. I don't want to spend a fortune on specially made polish racks that you can buy online!
Despite the rather large number of requirements, I finally seem to have found the perfect solution for me, namely the RIBBA picture ledge from IKEA! Although it's certainly not intended to be used as a nail polish holder, it's perfectly suitable for this task.

You can either get it in a lenght of 55 cm or 115 cm (21 ¾ " or 45 ¼ ") - which one you would want to choose simply depends on your free space / the size of your collection.
I, myself, got the smaller size in a wood colour (because I mostly own wooden furniture) but the RIBBA is also available in black or white.
The great thing is that you only have to pay 4,99€ for a small rack or 9,99€ for the bigger one.
So far, I got three of the small ones but I need to add another one soon because I'm afraid that I've already exhausted their capacity...

You can simply use them as they are so that you'll be able to place one row of polishes on every ledge. Luckily, my father used his mechanical skills and attached another wooden bar to each ledge so that I'm able to place another row of polishes on them.
You can somewhat see this construction on this picture taken a bit more from the side.

In this manner, I'm currently holding exactly 119 polishes (I keep the majority of my base/top coats separately, though)!
Last but not least, here are some pictures of each individual rack:

How do you store your nail polishes? Have you found your perfect solution yet?

  1. 119 polishes without top/basecoats? You make me feel good about my collection, and like going out and buying some more!

    1. In my defense I have to say that all the polishes on the bottom shelf come from my last two Ciaté advent calendars :D
I don't mind encouraging you to go out and buy some more, nonetheless! ^.^

  2. !!!!!! What a collection!!!!!! I thought I had a lot, but I have no way near as much as you do lol, clearly I need to go and expand my collection :D. Great storage idea, and within budget too! I have been planning on buying a spice rack to store mine in, but a trip to Ikea looks like a better option :D

    1. My collection really shouldn't be the benchmark for how many nail polishes a girl should own :D Of corse, there's nothing wrong with treating yourself to some more, though 8)
I'm glad that I could give you a storage idea, although a spice rack would certainly look really lovely as well!♥

  10. Wow, 119 polishes! That's quite a number! I have like 5 polishes and I think they are enough :D I was in Ikea the past Sunday, but I didn't see the holder. It would be great for other woman stuff as well.

    1. I certainly don't want to motivate anyone to get this amount of polishes as well :D
I actually bought these shelves quite a while ago but I deliberately checked online before writing this post and at least in Germany and the US they are still available!
I can also imagine displaying pretty perfume bottles or something similar on them ☺

  38. Hello! Thank you for your article. I’d like to try to compare it to my previous experience of learning polish lessons through Skype on online classes for free. I did around 10 conversations over Skype with a native speaker from http://preply.com/en/polish-by-skype. And I was pretty satisfied with their Quality. I think they have a strong teaching quality,They teach in a way any kid will easily understood.Following their course curriculum now I can speak polish like a native , but I Want to try another option.

  39. oooooooo this is such a good idea, right now I just store them in a tub!

What I do enjoy to do is remove the autumn winter colours (with my lipsticks) around this time of year and put them away with my jumpers etc, then its like xmas in October when I take them out again lol
